We deliver an 18 week Sport and Recreation course to young unemployed people aged 16-24 who are interested in working as a coach or in other roles within the leisure industry. The course is delivered in partnership with Falkirk Council.
The course involves completing the Falkirk Employability Award, which involves 10 SQA units. These units provide a general introduction to employment including responsibilities of employment, building own employability skills and work experience . They also complete a Sport and Recreation Qualification; 5 SQA units that focus on preparing and delivering coaching sessions.
In addition we enable people to attend a Scottish Football Association 1.1 and 1.2 early touches course, to enable the participants to coach football as part of our programmes. We also deliver a Sports Leaders Award to provide an additional learning and qualification.
As part of the course we offer participants the opportunity to gain work experience within our own football programmes. Under the supervision and support of our coaches, they are able to gain experience of planning, delivering and evaluating coaching sessions. This provides an opportunity to learn, to gain feedback and develop practical skills. They also gain experience of the office environment, gaining an understanding of the work that occurs in the background to make the coaching possible. The programme comprises general employability skill development as well as specific technical coaching development.
