On International Women’s Day we want to celebrate the fact that there has never before been more girls and women playing the beautiful game under the Falkirk Foundation banner and proudly wearing the Falkirk FC badge. We are extremely proud that the Foundation can provide a full pathway for the young girls and women in our community who can benefit from all that participating in sport can bring.
We have created the Falkirk Foundation’s first ever U16 Youth Pro Performance team who, after three games, are unbeaten at the top of the league having already beaten the league favourites, Glasgow City.
The Foundation has also created an U18’s team which has already provided opportunities for players to move into the Women’s first team. Both these new teams were set up to follow Falkirk Football Club’s own structure of having an U16’s and an U18’s academy level team filled with players that aspire to play for their respective first teams.
This has come about as, sadly, the Women’s Development Team could not continue due to several factors including the coaches leaving and taking some of the players with them. As some of the remaining players felt that they were no longer competitive enough to continue with the team as it was, they went on to recruit more women to create two brand new women’s recreational teams which, in a short space of time, have progressed into full 11 a side teams.
Here’s to even more girls and women playing the game, especially at Falkirk.
